Christmas Cheer in Baden-Baden
November 22 to December 26, 2011
Situated at the beginning of Baden-Baden’s splendid parks and gardens “Lichtentaler Allee”, the Christmas Market Baden-Baden will seduce visitors from all over the world to a romantic winter fairytale. From 22 November to 26 December visitors will encounter small streets of festive stalls, where the romantic atmosphere is heightened by thousands of shimmering Christmas lights. The entire experience is capped with a choice program of entertainment and catering for both young and old.
Numerous romantic little stalls surrounded by aromas of roasted almonds and gingerbread as well as the traditional hot mulled wine offer the opportunity to drift and relax in a festive atmosphere. The market stretches from the start of the Kurhaus Colonnades and weaves its way past the exclusive boutiques towards Baden-Baden’s impressive Kurhaus building.
Visitors can expect an exclusive offer of Christmas arts and crafts from the 100 stalls as well as in the exclusive boutiques in the Kurhaus Colonnades. Items such as handcrafts, wooden toys and decorative candles will be on offer along with scarves and a wide selection of silver, amber and designer jewellery, fashion accessories, antiques and exquisite porcelain – perfect for Christmas gifts or small souvenirs. The visitors’ appetite will also be entertained by the large selection of culinary Christmas treats.
Attractive shows will be performed daily on the open-air stage “Himmelsbühne” (Sky Stage). School groups, choirs, musical bands and theatrical groups will be providing the entertainment with a festive mix of seasonal songs and carols – whether you are young or old, the performances and presentations will find favour with all age groups. Another highlight: On December 6th St. Nicholas will float to the “Christkindelsmarkt” in a hot-air balloon, directly in front of the illuminated Kurhaus, where he will be handing out presents to the children.
A unique attraction of the Christmas Market in Baden-Baden is the ”living nativity”. The sound of bleating sheep and the scent of fresh hay will lead you to the idyllic life-sized crib in front of the Kurhaus.
Furthermore an illuminated alley of colossal church windows painted by Baden-Baden pupils will make up another special optic highlight. The windows will be lightened from the back from the beginning of dawn on and will spread pre-Christmassy atmospheric ambience. The popular “Fairytale Lane” where a famous German fairytale is shown on huge posters will be an impressive attraction for the whole family.
Another highlight during the Winter Season is the “Ice Arena”, a skating rink only a few steps away from the Christmas Market. Visitors can enjoy skating while music and flood lights in all colours will provide the perfect ambiance. There is as well the possibility of renting skates, furthermore the various bars and restaurants around the “Ice Arena” invite for a little refreshment and a little party spirit after a sportive skating.
